Epic Games to Pay Google $400K in Fortnite Payment Dispute

Epic Games to pay Google $400k

Epic Games has agreed to compensate Google for nearly $400,000 for independently managing payments for Fortnite, which led to the game being removed from the Play Store in 2020. As the court continues to consider necessary changes to Google’s Android policies in light of a jury ruling that the policies violate antitrust law, the settlement was reached.

Payment settlement amid ongoing legal battle

On Monday, Epic filed a notice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California agreeing to pay Google three hundred ninety-eight thousand, nine hundred thirty-one dollars and twenty-three cents. The payment relates to Google’s countersuit accusing Epic of breaching its development agreement by using a third-party payment method in Fortnite.

Epic initially claimed it did not owe Google anything because a jury found the development deal illegal, but the company decided to make the payment to avoid delaying a final court ruling on Google’s antitrust violations.
