Unified Microsoft Teams App Finally Available on Windows and macOS

Today we launched the new, unified Microsoft Teams app for Windows 11, Windows 10, and Mac.
The app supports personal, work, and education accounts, and you can easily switch between them.
Previously, using Teams for personal and professional or educational purposes required using two separate applications.

After months of testing, the unified Microsoft Teams app is finally here. The new app brings an end to the confusing Teams setup on PC, which required juggling multiple apps if you used the communications service for both personal and professional purposes. The new app supports switching between different account types, including personal, professional, and educational.

The new unified Teams app is available for Windows 11, Windows 10, and macOS. You can select your preferred Teams account to join meetings or log in as a guest in the app. You can also select any of your accounts when joining a meeting, even if it’s not your preferred account.

Microsoft unveiled a unified Teams app in March of this year. The app is a welcome change to the odd layout of a messaging platform used by hundreds of millions of people. At one point, Windows 11 had a chat experience integrated into the taskbar that was powered by a personal version of Teams. Microsoft later got rid of the chat experience, leaving two completely separate Teams apps, one for personal use and one for professional or educational use.

Finding the right app was more confusing than it should have been, since searching for Teams would show both versions. One workaround was to memorize the corresponding icons for the different Teams, but that shouldn’t be required to open the correct version of Teams.

The unified Teams app will be pre-installed with the Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2), but you don’t have to wait to download the app. If you have Microsoft Teams installed on your computer, the app will automatically update to the new version. The new Teams app is also available through the Microsoft website.
