The film “Y2K” hits theaters on December 6. It tells the story of two high school students who are caught up in a chaotic New Year’s Eve party on December 31, 1999, and must fight for survival.
The trailer shows a shocking scene where nostalgic electronic devices – like Tamagotchis and other late 20th century memorabilia – begin malfunctioning and wreaking havoc.
One of the trailer’s standout moments is when one character looks shocked upon seeing a Tamagotchi causing serious damage, exclaiming, “Tamagotchi just drilled a chick’s head!”
The film featured a diverse cast, including Jaeden Martell, Julian Dennison, The Kid Laroi, Fred Durst, Mason Gooding, Alicia Silverstone, and Mooney himself.
The trailer also highlights a touching moment where Martell’s character tries to find a silver lining in the chaos, telling Zegler, “That was the worst night of my life. But it’s cool that we got to meet again.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film “Y2K” premiered earlier this year at the South by Southwest festival.
Mooney, who co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Winter, makes his directorial debut with the film.

Rachel Zegler, who wowed audiences with her performance in last year’s “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Birds and Snakes,” will also lend her voice to a character in the upcoming Netflix animated film “Spellbound” and will star in Disney’s live-action “Snow White.”
