Shein sues Temu (again) as e-commerce row intensifies

HONG KONG — The saga of China’s cross-border e-commerce giants continued to gather pace this week as Shein filed another lawsuit against Temu, this time accusing its rival of counterfeiting goods, stealing trade secrets and misleading customers with an “illegal” business model.

In a complaint filed Monday in federal court in Washington, D.C., fast-fashion giant Shein alleged that Temu, a cross-border bargains platform owned by Chinese e-commerce giant PDD Holdings, “encourages its sellers to infringe the intellectual property rights of others and sell counterfeit or substandard goods” to “minimize the enormous losses it subsidizes.”
