Borderlands 4 will attempt to regain franchise position after film flop

borderlands 4 hero

Well, that was quick. Game developer Gearbox Software showed off a trailer Borderland 4 at Gamescom, perhaps to quell any rebellion from fans of the series after the awful Borderlands action movie from earlier this month. To say the trailer was cryptic (even for a teaser) would be an understatement, but it’s certainly enough to make us believe that Borderlands still has life in it.

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, 2K and Gearbox Software revealed a 1.5-minute trailer that shows pieces of a new planet colliding with another planet that looks like an icy atmosphere. Fragments of the collision start falling from the sky and at the end we see a robotic arm lifting a hood from one of the crash sites. When the arm flips the hood over, the omnipresent Borderlands gas mask from previous titles. Iiiii… that’s all she wrote.

While no further details about the game, such as gameplay, plot, or characters, were provided, the game’s creator stated that players will not have to wait long for the fourth main installment in the series. Borderlands franchise. Senior vice president and general manager of 2K Core Games Catharina Lavers Mallet said that “we are excited to share with our fans that 2025 will be a big year for 2K and Gearbox Entertainment.”

Borderland 3

If this schedule works out, it will result in Borderland 4 a little over five years later Borderland 3 has been released. It seems like 2K and Gearbox want to take things to the next level while keeping some of the best elements of the previous Borderlands submissions (and probably regain some of the lost enthusiasm after the film’s massive box office failure).

Randy Pitchford, Founder and President of Gearbox Entertainment Company, said: “All of us at Gearbox have huge ambitions, Borderland 4 and we put everything we have into creating everything we love Borderlands better than ever before, while taking the game to new levels and in exciting new directions.”

So stay tuned, as we’ll be bringing you more information and details as we progress with the new game. Borderland 4 The game is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC (Steam and Epic Game Store).
