Twitch Subscription Prices Increase by $2 on iOS and Android

Twitch is updating its subscription costs for mobile purchases. Starting October 1, Tier 1 and gift subscription prices on the company’s mobile app will be $8, down from the current rate of $6 per month. Tier 2 and Tier 3 prices will remain unchanged.

The company this summer said its Tier 1 price for a desktop channel subscription would increase by a dollar in the U.S., from $5 to $6. The change took effect in July, marking the first time Twitch subscription costs have increased for viewers in the U.S. The change came into effect in the U.K., Canada, Australia, and Turkey earlier this year.

The larger increase in mobile subscription costs is likely a response to the fees both big tech companies charge for in-app purchases, a topic that has landed the companies in several lawsuits and reduced their commission percentages for several . Both companies have also adopted new fee structures in Europe in response to the Digital Markets Act.
