Buy one even if you hate smart home tech

No one can blame you for hating smart home technology, and that doesn’t make you a Luddite. Despite how mature the market is, it’s still a jumbled mess of often confusing devices and incompatible platforms. But even if you’re not tech-savvy and avoid smart home gadgets like the plague, you should still get yourself a Ring Video Doorbell.

Ring makes all sorts of devices, but there’s one that smart home naysayers should be interested in. The Ring Video Doorbell Wireless is a great entry point into the smart home market for a few good reasons. It’s easy to install, easy to use, and has some awesome convenience features. Plus, it gives you the peace of mind of knowing who’s at your door before you even walk up. Now you have one more reason to buy one: The Ring Video Doorbell is currently on sale for just $59.99.

Ring is largely responsible for making video doorbells so popular. However, the company now has a ton of competition, with many of its rivals offering impressive products that are great alternatives to Ring devices.

One example is the Blink Video Doorbell, which is a popular, low-cost option among BGR readers. Another is the Arlo Essential Video Doorbell, which is currently on a big discount.

Both of these options are great, but they fall short of the Ring Video Doorbell in a few key areas. The biggest of these is perhaps its deep integration with Amazon’s incredibly popular Alexa assistant. This is one of the main things I like most about my Ring Video Doorbell. I can instantly see who’s at my door on any Alexa device, like an Echo Show or Fire TV.

At $99.99, the entry-level Ring Video Doorbell is Ring’s cheapest wireless model. The only cheaper option is the Ring Video Doorbell Wired, but that needs to be installed in place of your existing doorbell because it draws power from your old doorbell wiring.

The regular Ring Video Doorbell is wireless, so it’s powered by a battery instead of the doorbell’s wiring. That means you can install it anywhere in a matter of minutes. It really couldn’t be easier.

If you already have a doorbell and want to use the same wiring, you can do so, as this model has optional wires that you can connect. That way, you never have to worry about charging the battery. Or, if you don’t want to bother with all that, you can go completely wireless and install it anywhere you want. The included battery lasts between 6 and 12 months, depending on use. I installed this exact model at my parents’ house and they’ve been charging for almost 12 months.

Amazon has been running a ton of deals on the Ring Video Doorbell lately, but the retailer hasn’t included this entry-level model. That’s finally changing, as the Ring Video Doorbell is now priced at $59.99. That’s the lowest price this model has gone for, aside from the recent Prime Day sale, which was only available to Prime members.

You can also get it in a bundle with a Ring Chime doorbell for $69.99. The bundle usually costs $135, so you’ll save even more than if you bought the doorbell alone.

Without Chime, you won’t hear your doorbell ring like you would with a conventional doorbell. Instead, you’ll only get Ring notifications on your phone and other connected devices. Personally, I prefer it this way.

I have a doorbell that connects to my video doorbell and I always disconnect it for two reasons. First, my outdoor cameras start sending me notifications long before guests actually get to my front door to ring. Second, I don’t have to deal with my crazy barking dog every time someone rings.
