India holds talks with US to discuss development of energy cooperation

New Delhi (India), August 22 (ANI): Power Minister Manohar Lal, accompanied by Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, on Thursday met a US delegation to discuss energy cooperation between the two countries.

During the discussion, the Energy Minister highlighted the long-standing bilateral cooperation between India and the United States, underscoring their shared commitment to a clean energy future that promotes economic growth and development, the Energy Ministry said in a statement.

The Minister added that the Ministry of Energy is determined to strengthen this partnership.

Underlining the need for cooperation, he said that the engagement of India and the United States under the Energy Efficiency Pillar, led by the Ministry of Energy under the Strategic Clean Energy Partnership (SCEP), is important to achieve our energy transformation goals. His Excellency John Podesta, who led the US delegation, said that India is a valuable partner and both countries support each other in building resilient supply chains and investment-led partnership strategies.

He also noted that India and the US can cooperate in areas such as clean energy, energy storage systems and energy efficiency. He added that the US can support India in increasing its manufacturing capabilities.

During the meeting, both sides explored the possibility of exchanging technical views on the modernisation of the transmission network to cope with future load growth.

Discussions also included political consultations and potential financial support to continue modernization efforts.

During the meeting, ways to increase production capacity were also discussed.

According to the statement, the two sides were exploring opportunities for an interstate partnership on long-term energy storage research, as well as further collaboration on grid-scale battery energy storage solutions.

Moving forward, the discussions highlighted the importance of stimulating manufacturing projects and policies to enhance India’s potential to build, deploy and export high-efficiency air-conditioning systems and fans. (ANI)
