RAAC Tillicoultry residents outraged by evacuation

A group of residents met with the new MP on Saturday morning to voice their concerns.

Homeowner Lynsey McQuater said she had lived in her apartment for 23 years before it was evacuated.

She said she now felt like she had lost everything.

She had invested a lot of money in her property and some of her belongings remained within the block.

Before the evacuation she was unaware that there was a RAAC in the building.

In October last year, the city council sent letters to residents advising them that RAAC-related work was taking place on the property.

Three hours later, police had evacuated all residents, but Ms McQuater was unsure why – she wondered if there had been flooding and was unaware that the RAAC was to blame.

Mrs McQuater has been living with her mother since October last year because she cannot afford to pay the mortgage and rent an apartment.

“I would like to get a fair offer for my house, know the price so I can start over somewhere else,” she said.

She added that she had no chance of getting another mortgage due to her age – 50 – and chronic illness.
