UP focuses on renewable energy: 3 solar parks launched, six more to be built soon

Lucknow: In response to rising electricity consumption and rising prices, the state government is promoting solar energy as a sustainable alternative in Uttar Pradesh, a government spokesman said. He added that several large solar projects, including nine solar parks with a combined capacity of 3,710 MW, are under construction in the state.

“So far, three parks with a capacity of 435 MW have been commissioned and the remaining six will be commissioned soon after the tender is completed. Land allocation for all nine parks has been finalised, paving the way for their rapid development,” he said.

It is worth noting that solar parks have been set up in four cities of Bundelkhand (Jhansi, Lalitpur, Chitrakoot and Jalaun) and also in cities like Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Mirzapur and Prayagraj. Currently, the bidding process for solar parks under construction in Bundelkhand, Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat is underway.

The country has received significant investments specifically for the creation of solar parks in the solar energy sector. Nine solar parks are being built under this initiative. Of these, solar parks with a capacity of 365 MW and 65 MW, totaling 430 MW, have already been commissioned and production has been started.

In addition, solar parks of 600 MW capacity at Jhansi and Lalitpur, 800 MW at Chitrakoot, 1,200 MW at Jalaun, 75 MW at Kanpur Dehat and 35 MW at Kanpur Nagar are under construction. Tenders for these projects are in progress.

“The state has set a target of generating 22,000 MW of electricity from solar energy. This includes installation of 6,000 MW of solar rooftop solar systems in private and government buildings and setting up 14,000 MW of public utility projects and solar parks. Similarly, under PM-KUSUM Yojana, 16.17 MW of tube wells are being exploited using solar energy,” the spokesperson said.
