Rapper will.i.am Launches AI Radio App With Digital Personas and Curated Content

While many musicians and celebrities have spoken out against AI, rapper wiil.i.am is stepping into the fray with the technology, announcing a new AI app called Raidio.FYI.

FYI is a free AI-powered platform that “simulates the radio listening experience” by allowing users to engage with radio presenters and curate content based on their interests.

“We simulated a radio station format where we have AI co-hosts, and you can have deep conversations about any topic that interests you, real-time information, historical information,” the rapper said on “The Claman Countdown” on Tuesday.

“It simulates a radio experience, it talks on a music bed and then it throws it into a curated playlist that people create,” he added, “and then we build those stations based on the designs.”

The Black Eyed Peas member founded the free app as a “creative co-pilot,” according to the app’s website. Instead of needing other people to work on projects or analyze plans, FYI lets the user help turn their ideas into reality.

“I have a personality that never gets tired and can help me flesh out my ideas. I don’t need her to come up with an idea,” the rapper explained.

“If you’re worried or… unsure about your idea, talk to one of our AI personas and help you refine your marketing plan or your strategy or the song or the book you’re publishing and have an honest conversation with them. You can… rant and your rant will make sense. And they’ll help you shape your ideas into something that you can execute and develop a strategy.”

In addition, the platform allows users to send messages, create project folders, and perform content merges. FYI also uses advanced end-to-end encryption similar to methods used to secure cryptocurrency transactions.

“It’s super thoughtful,” he said. “We have our partners and our RSS feeds, our in-house journalists who make sure that what we report is factual. And every now and then it happens that it’s wrong, but that’s why we’re calling on everyone to promote AI.”

“We’re calling on everyone to push AI to question it,” he continued. “Push it to go out and do more. Treat it as something you can trust, but you have to push it with some caution. You can’t just accept everything as fact in the digital world.”

The rapper tested the software with host Liz Claman, who noted that from “CEO candidates” and those working in business, to artists and songwriters, it’s something “anyone can use.”
