“Modiji, if you are thinking of stopping caste census, you are dreaming – no force can stop it now!” Rahul Gandhi wrote on X.

Referring to India Today’s ‘Mood of The Nation’ poll, Gandhi added: “The Hindustan order has come – soon 90% of Hindus will support and demand caste census. Implement the order now or see the next Prime Minister do it.”

The Congress party had earlier released the results of the caste census poll, saying they were already a clear picture of the public mood.

“Now 74% of people believe that a caste census should be conducted,” the party wrote on the X portal.

“Who has how much population in society? Only by answering this question can we ensure everyone’s participation. The clear message from the people of the country is – caste census, give us our rights.”

What the India Today Mood of the Nation survey says

The latest Mood of the Nation (MOTN) survey conducted by CVoter for India Today magazine revealed that a whopping 74% of respondents believe a caste census should be conducted. This is a significant increase from February 2024, when only 59% supported the idea.

Rahul Gandhi had started pushing for a nationwide caste census ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and with the increase in Lok Sabha membership, the Congress leader continued to push for such a census.

On Saturday, Gandhi said 90 per cent of the country’s citizens were not covered by the scheme and a caste census should be conducted in their interest.

Addressing the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ here, Gandhi said, “90 per cent people are sitting outside the system. They have skills, knowledge but have no linkages (with the system). That is why we have raised the demand for caste census.”
