12 kidnappers in Mohali police net

Mohali police arrested 12 car and other property thieves in five different cases, recovering 15 motorcycles, 12 mobile phones, a purse and keys.

Addressing a press conference at his office in Mataur on Sunday, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) City-2, Mohali, Mohit Aggarwal, said the accused were arrested by Phase-1 and Mataur police in the last 10 days.

In the first case, the Phase 1 police led by Inspector Jagdeep Singh arrested a gang of five thieves and car snatchers, including Satish Kumar of Kandali in Mohali; Sohana Rinku alias Happy, Satpal Singh, Maninder Kumar alias Mundri; and Sanjay alias Maamu of Phase 1 in Mohali.

“The police have recovered eight bikes, two scooters, six mobile phones from the gang. We will now question the accused and verify the areas where they were active and whom they targeted. As per our sources, the gang was heading towards another target but was caught,” DSP Aggarwal said.

In the second case, Mataur police led by Inspector Amandeep Tarika arrested a gang of three thieves, including Sunil alias Nat from Rajpura, Rohan Sharma from Patiala and Boby Singh from Gujranwala.

The accused had stolen a mobile phone and a bicycle of a food delivery man earlier this month near the flower market in Phase-7. The police have recovered the stolen bicycle and mobile phone from the accused.

In the third case, Mataur police arrested Sanjeev Kumar from Khanna in Ludhiana and recovered his wallet, 2,000 cash and keys to multiple vehicles.

“Kumar targeted the woman on August 18 and stole her purse containing money. We traced him through human and technical intelligence,” the DSP added.

Mataur police also arrested Gurpreet Singh of Mohali and Raj Kumar of Fatehgarh Sahib and recovered two stolen bikes and five mobile phones from their possession.

In the fifth case, the Mataur police arrested Vikramjeet Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib, who was carrying a stolen bicycle.

“We are now arresting their accomplices. These accused used to target abandoned vehicles or those parked at isolated places and also snatch valuables from pedestrians. With their arrest, incidents of vehicle snatching and theft will be curbed in Mohali,” the DSP said.
