NetApp Announces Expanded Support for VMware Deployments with Focus on Cost Efficiency and Optimization

NetAppthe original intelligent data company is launching a slew of new features designed to support VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) implementations, as well as opportunities Azure VMware Solution (AVS) and virtual environment optimization. These latest innovations will help joint customers maximize the performance and value of their private and hybrid cloud environments, according to the company.

The latest NetApp solutions, which are the result of long-standing design collaboration between NetApp and VMware, are designed to optimize costs, simplify operations and increase flexibility for customers using VMware environments.

“NetApp and Broadcom are working together to eliminate uncertainty for hybrid cloud environments,” said Jonsi Stefansson, senior vice president and chief technology officer at NetApp. “More than 20,000 customers rely on NetApp to power their VMware workloads. NetApp’s continued strong partnership with Broadcom following the acquisition of VMware ensures our solutions work seamlessly together, enabling our joint customers to leverage a single intelligent data infrastructure to more efficiently run their VMware workloads.”

The first of these new features extend VCF supportenabling the use of NetApp ONTAP storage software to simplify hybrid cloud environments VCF. The latest version of ONTAP Tools for VMware (OTV) supports SnapMirror proactive synchronization, enabling customers to increase operational efficiency and improve data availability by offloading data protection from their virtualized compute, according to NetApp.

“As organizations modernize their infrastructure with VMware Cloud Foundation, they want to know that the services they rely on from industry leaders like NetApp will continue to operate seamlessly and deliver the value they expect,” said Paul Turner, vice president of products, VCF Division, Broadcom. “Working closely with NetApp helps our joint customers deploy innovative data and storage services on their private cloud platform and ensures they get the most value from their VMware environments.”

Customers can now use AVS NetApp Spot Eco with Reserved AVS Instances for customers extending or migrating vSphere workloads to the cloud. This enables enterprises to gain the most value from their deployments, especially when combined with Azure NetApp Files to offload data storage and reduce compute costs.

“We’ve positioned Microsoft Azure as the cloud of choice for VMware environments, and we’re offering rapid, cost-effective solutions that enable many customers to move their VMware workloads to the cloud,” said Brett Tanzer, vice president of product management at Microsoft. “As VMware customers navigate the changes to how they operate their virtual environments, we’ve given them a way to secure, predictable pricing for years to come. NetApp’s cloud data management and observability capabilities help our customers ensure that these deployments are delivering the ROI they need.”

NetApp finally debuts Optimizing Virtual Machines in the Insights Cloudexpanding its solution to support virtual environment optimization for VMware. The solution offers a range of tools that reduce costs by increasing virtual machine density, run storage at the best price-to-performance ratio and increase visibility into the environment across availability, performance and configuration compliance. NetApp also offers a 30-day free trial of Cloud Insights, allowing customers to find the most cost-effective way to migrate to new VMware software subscriptions, according to the company.

“In the increasingly complex world of cloud operations, data and infrastructure, IT teams are increasingly looking for holistic platforms rather than point solutions,” said Scott Sinclair, practice director, Enterprise Strategy Group“These joint updates from NetApp and Broadcom enable customers to leverage NetApp’s intelligent data infrastructure to consolidate multiple data operations onto a single platform with industry-leading data management and CloudOps capabilities. This will help customers drive operational and infrastructure efficiencies that lower the total cost of ownership of their VMware investment.”
