‘One Tree Hill’ Sequel Coming to Netflix Starring Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton Morgan

Netflix is ​​considering returning to Tree Hill.

The streaming platform is in the early stages of development and is working on a sequel to the series that was a staple of the former CW network. One Tree HillHilarie Burton Morgan and Sophia Bush are set to reprise their roles from the series and will also serve as executive producers alongside their former co-star Danneel Ackles.

Warner Bros. Television, which produced One Tree Hillis also behind a potential sequel. Becky Hartman Edwards (Firefly Belt) is writing a sequel.

WBTV and Netflix declined to comment.

One Tree Hill aired for nine seasons on The WB and The CW, telling the story of a group of high school students and young adults in a fictional North Carolina town (after a four-year time jump midway through the series).

In addition to Bush, Burton Morgan, and Ackles, the series cast also included James Lafferty, Chad Michael Murray, Bethany Joy Lenz, Paul Johansson, Lee Norris, and Antwon Tanner. Jackson Brundage, Lisa Goldstein, Austin Nichols, Robert Buckley, Shantel VanSanten, and Jana Kramer joined the series later during its run.

A few years after the series ended, Burton Morgan, Ackles and Bush supported Audrey Wauchope, a writer One Tree Hillwhen Wauchope accused series creator Mark Schwahn of sexually harassing her and writing partner Rachel Specter while they were working on the show. Other cast and crew members signed on to a statement of support and said they, too, were mistreated “mentally and emotionally.” Schwahn is not involved in the sequel.

Bush, Burton Morgan, and Lenz hosted a podcast dedicated to the series titled: Drama Queens from 2021; Buckley joined the show earlier this year as co-host.

Edwards will executive produce the project with Bush, Burton Morgan, Danneel Ackles and her husband, Jensen Ackles (via the couple’s Chaos Machine production company). Emily Moss Wilson is serving as producer.
