PTC press office: A massive protest broke out at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh after reports emerged of a hidden camera allegedly found in a toilet in a girls’ hostel. The students filed a complaint with Mines Minister K. Ravindra on Friday, accusing the college management of trying to cover up the incident and threatening those who tried to report it.

The protests began on Thursday evening and are ongoing, with hundreds of students demanding justice and harsh action against those responsible for installing the camera and circulating the footage.

The students expressed their displeasure to Chief Minister K. Ravindra, who visited the college along with the district collector and the superintendent of police, in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

According to a report in News18, the Andhra Pradesh police have identified and arrested the accused, Vijay, who is also a college student. The police have seized his laptop and found nearly 300 obscene videos. It is suspected that these videos were sold to other students and circulated among the boys.

No evidence was found. The girls need not worry about this issue.” It added that the police checked the laptops, mobile phones and other electronic gadgets of the suspects in the presence of students and staff of the college.
  • Investigative measures: District Superintendent of Police Krishna Gangadhar Rao told PTI that confidence building measures have been initiated and a special team has been constituted to probe the allegations. The inspector has been appointed as the special investigating officer, along with a five-member police technical investigation team.
  • Ongoing investigation: Police are investigating whether any recordings were circulated and have confiscated electronic gadgets from two students for inspection.
  • Government investigation: Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh also ordered an inquiry into the alleged incident.
  • Political reactions: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief YS Sharmila Reddy expressed outrage over the incident and demanded immediate action against the culprits and the college management.

As the investigation continues, both students and authorities are seeking clarification on the incident, demanding more accountability and justice.
