Dyslexia Illumination Center Launches New AI Software

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The Illuminations Center for Dyslexia program plans to use AI to help people with dyslexia and support teachers. The program will help improve children’s learning skills and techniques.

“A child with dyslexia has a way of organizing their brain. There’s a lot of repetition to organize the brain in a way that the sounds are connected to the symbols in the brain. We call that orthographic mapping, a normal reader can do that with a word and about 8 to 12 repetitions. But a reader with a disorder and dyslexia can do anywhere from 500 to 1,500 repetitions, depending on the severity. So each child needs a slightly different plan. We spend a lot of time making sure we’re doing exactly the right thing for each child every day,” said Leta Palmiter.

This online and in-person therapy group offers services to individuals and schools. This outreach allows them to continue to be a resource for the community.

“So we have a program that we offer called exercises for schools where we can come into schools with an online program that is specifically designed for students with dyslexia. It has a support system that makes it very easy for teachers to implement, but we can also come in and educate those teachers and help those students on an hourly basis, work with groups and give kids the opportunity to access services that they just can’t afford, that they just can’t access,” said Kelly Davis.

The program will feature the fourth annual scarecrow contest to raise money to help the community.
