Controversy over collapsed Shivaji Maharaj statue

Minister Ramdas Athawale has criticised the decision to entrust an inexperienced sculptor with the construction of the Shivaji Maharaj statue that collapsed at the Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg district.

Visiting the site, Athawale demanded a detailed investigation and questioned why a novice was entrusted with such an important task. He also urged the authorities to involve experts and opposition leaders in finalising the new memorial.

The collapse of the statue, unveiled eight months ago by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has sparked public outrage. The Maharashtra government has launched an investigation and plans to rebuild the imposing statue in keeping with Shivaji Maharaj’s stature.
