Friendly staff, rewards and 24/7 grocery shopping: How Esso’s customer-first culture earns it a top-quality service award

The partnership between Esso and FairPrice supermarkets, which has existed since 2003, allows customers to shop and replenish their supplies in one convenient visit, at any time of day.

The alliance started with the opening of six stores and has now expanded to 59 stores islandwide.

At Esso stations you can also buy ready-made meals, groceries, FairPrice own-brand products, as well as a selection of health and well-being products from Unity, a branch of the FairPrice pharmacy.

“The main objective of this alliance is to leverage the strengths of both parties to provide our customers with a trusted and convenient service,” said Mr. Jason Yeo, Head of Strategy, Retail and Acting CEO (Cheers).

As Ms Tan notes, over the years Esso has also introduced freshly baked pastries, courier services and, most recently, Maki San sushi rolls.

Esso stations also play a key role in FairPrice Annual Share-A-Textbook Group Campaign. They offer convenience to drivers who can drop in and donate used textbooks and exam books to a good cause.

On how Esso delivers a consistent customer experience across its 59 stations in Singapore, Ms Tan says it is possible thanks to a dedicated team that works in synergy. “It takes a lot of hard work, discipline and collaboration across the team and diverse roles, but we see this as an opportunity to redefine what it means to deliver a great customer experience.”

And it’s not just Esso customers who enjoy visiting Esso stations to refuel and shop. Mr Arunmugam looks forward to work every morning. “At my age, I want to be happy doing a job I love. My customers tell us we’re very lucky to work here because we always look happy.”
