Brink says ANC-EFF coalition would be ‘terrible’ for Tshwane residents

JOHANNESBURG – Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink has said a coalition government made up of the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) would be “terrible” for residents of the capital.

Brink faces a difficult two weeks to retain his position after his coalition partners, ActionSA, announced they would be leaving the city’s current governing coalition.

ActionSA, which has 19 councillors in Tshwane, will join forces with the ANC and EFF, giving them a governing majority.

Brink said he was not interested in keeping his mayoral position, but that the current party coalition must be preserved so that it can continue its good work.

“I think ActionSA has made a valuable contribution. The alternative would have been to include the ANC and the EFF and ActionSA would have become a less important partner to those parties. That is a terrible prospect for the people of Tshwane and ActionSA would not have benefited from that,” Brink said.
