JPMorgan Chase & Co. has promoted a seasoned transaction specialist to co-head of its European M&A team.

Cassander Verwey, who currently heads the Wall Street bank’s investment banking division in the Netherlands, has been named co-head of mergers and acquisitions for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, alongside Dwayne Lysaght, according to a memo seen by Financial News.

As revealed by FN, Verwey’s appointment follows the departure of Carsten Woehrn, co-head of Emea M&A and co-head of financial sponsors M&A, who joined Goldman Sachs in April.

Woehrn was later appointed co-head of Goldman Sachs’ M&A practice for Europe, Middle East and Africa, alongside Nimesh Khiroya.

Verwey has been with JPMorgan for 25 years, most recently serving as senior country director and head of investment banking in the Netherlands.

“Cassander will now assume the role of co-head of M&A, EMEA, and will work closely with Dwayne to lead the M&A team to deliver tailored services and advice to our clients in the region,” reads the note from Anu Aiyengar, global head of M&A, and Conor Hillery and Matthieu Wiltz, deputy CEOs, Emea.

JPMorgan has made a leadership shake-up at its investment bank following the departure of Visa Raghavan in February to join Citigroup as head of banking.

Filippo Gori takes over from Raghavan, CEO of Emea and co-head of JPMorgan’s investment bank.

Hillery previously co-headed European Investment Banking with Dorothee Blessing, who has been named global co-head of Investment Banking alongside Jay Horine.
