Deadline’s acquisitions bring big profits

Sunday can be chalked up as a major success under the hat of Pirates general manager Ben Cherington.

Nick Yorke and Billy Cook, acquired by Cherington at the trade deadline this year, helped lead Triple-A Indianapolis back to action, scoring five times, each hitting home runs (along with Edward Olivares and Dylan Shockley) as the Indians roared to a 10-9 victory.

The Altoona Curve had just three base hits, all singles, but still beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5-2, including seven tying bases in a game.

Greensboro lost to the Rome Emperors 3-2, though Lonnie White Jr. reached base three times and 2022 left-handed prospect Michael Kennedy pitched five innings, giving up one run, in his first appearance since being promoted to High-A.

Bradenton lost to Tampa 18-4, but 2024 fifth-round pick Will Taylor hit a home run and singled in his best game of his professional career to date.
