How Scottie Scheffler Made More Than $62 Million With His Tiger Woods-Like Year

Scottie Scheffler’s dominance in golf has not been felt since the heyday of Tiger Woods.

He too is starting to earn money just like Woods.

On Sunday, Scheffler won the season-ending Tour Championship to clinch the FedEx Cup title.

It was Scheffler’s seventh PGA Tour win of 2024 — the most since Woods won seven in 2007.

According to ESPN, Scheffler earned about $29.2 million during the season, which was about 9.2 percent of the $317.4 million in total prize money from tournaments he played in.

In 2007, Woods earned about $10.9 million, which was about 9.7 percent of the $112.5 million available in prize money.

Scheffler, 28, also collected two huge bonuses — $25 million for winning the FedEx Cup and $8 million for being No. 1 in the Comcast Business Tour Top 10, giving him total earnings this year of $62.2 million — excluding endorsements and other earnings.

And that number is set to grow as the PGA begins paying out bonuses under its Player Impact Program.

“If you can put it into words, good luck,” Scheffler said Sunday about his year. “Because I don’t think I can. All I’m trying to do is hit a good shot. I’ve been able to do that a lot this year.”

Scheffler’s contemporaries don’t even come close to this.

According to Sportico, including prize money and bonuses, Xander Schauffele earned the second highest amount – $29.3 million.

Collin Morikawa is third with $25.3 million, and Rory McIlroy is fourth with $19.2 million.

Scheffler’s historic season also brought fame off the field.

Scheffler became a father in May, welcoming a baby boy just before the PGA Championship.

Shortly thereafter, before the second round of the PGA Championship, Scheffler was arrested while attempting to drive his car into Valhalla Golf Club; however, the charges were later dropped.
