THDC to build 6,790 MW pumped-storage hydropower plant in Maharashtra: Rediff Moneynews

THDC India signs a memorandum of understanding with Maharashtra to set up six pumped storage projects with a combined capacity of 6,790 MW and an investment of over Rs 33,600 crore.

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) THDC India on Tuesday said it has signed an agreement with the Maharashtra government to deploy six PSPs (pumped storage energy projects) with a total capacity of 6,790 MW at an investment of over Rs 33,600 crore.

The agreement aims to facilitate developers in conducting studies, investigations, preparing detailed project reports (DPRs) and establishing projects within a time-bound period while complying with the applicable rules, policies and schemes of both the central and state governments, a company statement said.

According to the statement, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the Department of Water Resources, Government of Maharashtra for utilisation of pumped storage power through six power plants with a total capacity of 6,790 MW and a planned investment of over Rs 33,600 crore.

The six projects planned under this agreement are: Malshej Ghat Pumped Storage Power Project (700 MW), Aruna Pumped Storage Power Project (1,950 MW), Kharari Pumped Storage Power Project (1,250 MW), Humbarli Birmani Pumped Storage Power Project (1,000 MW), Aruna Kolamb Pumped Storage Power Project (1,200 MW) and Morawadi Majarewadi Pumped Storage Power Project (690 MW).

As part of the collaboration, the Maharashtra Government will facilitate the allocation process of water required for the projects, including both initial recharge and annual water requirement, after receiving applications from THDC India.

In return, THDC prepares detailed project reports (DPRs) for each project and submits them to both the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and the state water resources department for approval.
