Qualcomm CEO confirms Snapdragon-powered desktops planned

One of the many questions regarding the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processors has always been: Is it Just mobile processor? Qualcomm had previously suggested otherwise, but the company’s CEO just gave the strongest signal yet that a desktop chip is indeed on the cards.

During the launch of the 8-core Snapdragon X Plus ahead of IFA in Berlin, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon was asked about the possibility of a Snapdragon desktop chip. He replied:

“The first thing we did was we introduced (Snapdragon) X Elite. Then we introduced X Plus, plus 10-core. Today we introduce 8-core Plus to try to reach different price points. You’ll see us with a lot of projects on desktops, mini desktops, and ultimately you won’t be surprised that we’re still thinking about high-performance desktops. We’re on that journey. Like I said, we’re here to stay.”

Amon also hinted at closer collaboration with Chromebooks, something Google CEO John Solomon hinted at back in June.

Amon also told his audience that he will provide more details at an investor conference in November, where he will talk about the future of the Snapdragon platform. “Stay tuned in November,” he said.
