Civilization VI Gets Faster with Apple Silicon Update

Seasoned generals can now conquer the world even faster on their Macs as “Civilization VI” now supports Apple Silicon.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VIalso known as Civilization VI has long been a staple of strategy gaming on the Mac, having been available on the platform since 2016. But a recent update has brought the kicking and screaming game into the modern era.

In August, Aspyr Media released an update of the game to the Mac App Store, making it optimized for Apple Silicon. Information from AppleInsider After testing, the game now loads about twice as fast as the Intel-based version, and is also significantly faster, especially during very demanding gameplay.

This version is a universal app, so it supports both Intel-based Macs and newer Apple Silicon-based Macs.

At the same time as the Apple Silicon optimization, the Mac App Store listing reports that brand new Monthly Challenges have been added. These provide time-limited challenges to take on unique scenarios as a specific leader, with an in-game Hall of Fame badge up for grabs.

This is not the first time Civilization VI runs on Apple-designed processors. Apple Insider raved about the game’s release on iPad in 2018, with an iPhone version following shortly thereafter.

This Civilization The series puts players in the role of historical leaders tasked with leading their country and culture to compete with others in the world. Civilization VI New ways for experienced players to refine their civilization to achieve success were provided, and new tutorials were introduced to attract new players.

Players looking to play the next major installment in the strategy series will have to wait a bit longer. It has been revealed that Civilization VII will be available on Mac and other platforms on February 11, 2025.
