YouTube introduces new parental controls aimed at teen accounts

YouTube has quietly rolled out new parental controls for teen accounts on the video-sharing platform. The new feature from the Google subsidiary lets parents better monitor their teens’ accounts. YouTube began rolling out the new supervision feature for teen accounts this week. Interestingly, Google initially teased the feature when it expanded its “school time” feature to phones and tablets in early August.

Parents can now easily supervise their teens’ YouTube accounts

Interestingly, the new feature allows parents to easily connect their own YouTube accounts to their teens’ accounts. The new feature allows them to supervise their teens’ accounts. With the new feature, YouTube will help parents be more aware of their teens’ activities on the platform.

It also encourages safe sharing practices on the video-sharing giant. Interestingly, the new feature offers insight into how people use YouTube without compromising their privacy.

Parents can connect their teen’s account to YouTube’s Family Hub

Parents can easily connect their teens’ accounts using the Family Center in the YouTube app. From the Family Center page, they can “Invite Teen” using the QR code setup process. Once connected, they will be able to see information such as subscriptions, number of uploads, comments, and more.

YouTube will send email notifications to both connected accounts. The notifications will let parents know when their teen uploads a new video or goes live. YouTube said it will “offer advice on how to create responsibly, supported by resources created in partnership with Common Sense Networks, a subsidiary of Common Sense Media.”

YouTube’s primary goal is to provide parents and teens with mutual control and new resources. “It will empower teens to become informed and responsible digital citizens.” Interestingly, the latest feature builds on YouTube’s long-standing supervised experience for teens.

That said, YouTube’s new Family Center feature for connecting with teen accounts is available in the app on Android and iOS devices. Interestingly, in addition to YouTube, other popular platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook have also introduced parental controls aimed at protecting teens.
