Even bargain chains see spending drop; Atlantic City casino officials plan smoking-free ad campaign

Dollar Tree lowers its full-year profit and sales forecasts as customers continue to grapple with higher prices and lower spending.

Shares fell more than 20% Wednesday after hitting a 52-week low the previous day. Dollar Tree’s biggest one-day selloff in more than 20 years came in less than a week. Rival outlet Dollar General had a dismal quarter and posted its biggest one-day decline in history.

Dollar Tree is trying to attract customers from other retailers by offering them ultra-low prices, but giants like Walmart and Target also admit their customers are under pressure and they are lowering their prices, too.

Atlantic City casino workers plan ad campaign to ban smoking after court rejects ban

A group of Atlantic City casino workers who want to ban smoking in gambling establishments will launch an ad campaign featuring their children in response to a judge’s dismissal of a lawsuit that sought to end smoking in nine casinos.

The workers, who call themselves Casino Workers Against the Effects of Smoking, said Wednesday that the digital ads will target districts governed by state lawmakers who have the authority to pass legislation banning smoking in casinos.

The union that filed the unsuccessful lawsuit said it will withdraw from the state AFL-CIO over the case, saying the main labor organization does not support worker health and safety issues.
