New Delhi: The government has called for greater involvement of startups in the green hydrogen sector, with an aim to inject innovation and new ideas into the emerging industry. Speaking at the inauguration of the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2024), New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi emphasised the importance of engaging youth and startups to accelerate India’s clean energy transition.

“Startups are key to bringing fresh ideas and innovations to the green hydrogen ecosystem. We need to actively involve them in our journey to make India a global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives,” Joshi said. The minister also highlighted that the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make India a leader in green hydrogen production.

The three-day event, which will be held from September 11-13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, will bring together over 6,000 participants, including startups, industry leaders and international experts. The event will feature various initiatives, including the hackathon GH2thon, which aims to encourage startups and entrepreneurs to develop cutting-edge solutions for the sector.

Since the first edition of ICGH in 2023, India has made significant progress, including the allocation of 3,000 MW of capacity for electrolyser manufacturing and green hydrogen production. Joshi also highlighted that the National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to set up pilot projects in sectors like steel, shipping and mobility, and is supporting research with an outlay of Rs 400 crore.

The conference will feature discussions on green financing, infrastructure development and youth engagement. Various competitions, including the GH2thon hackathon, will engage students and startups in developing solutions for the sector.

Bhupinder S. Bhalla, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, emphasised the importance of scaling up green hydrogen production and fostering international cooperation to achieve global climate goals.
