Google adds ‘file transfer’ feature to Gemini app: Here’s how you can transfer files from your phone – Technology News

You may soon be able to transfer files in the Gemini app on your phone. Google has expanded the use of its AI assistant Gemini AI for smartphone users.

On the official Google blog, it explained that with the “file transfer” feature, you can transfer files directly from your phone in the Gemini app. Google also added that with the new feature, it intends to improve its Gemini app for mobile users. The “file transfer” feature is available for both iOS and Android users.

How to use the “file upload” feature

The “file transfer” feature was initially limited to the Gemini 1.5 Pro platform for web users. But now, Google has expanded the feature to smartphone users as well. The initiative came after Google introduced the Gemini mobile app. The feature is currently available for Gemini Advanced users.

So how can you transfer files in your Gemini AI app? Here’s how you can transfer files from your iOS and Android devices:

  • First, you need to open the Gemini app in full screen mode on your iOS or Android device.
  • Now you need to click on the “plus” icon. You will find the “plus” icon in the lower left corner of the screen, next to the microphone and camera options.
  • Then you will see a sheet sliding. The sheet will present three upload options that are available on both Android and iOS. These options include Upload from Gallery, Upload File, and Upload from Drive.
  • Now you should select the files you want to upload. You can choose them either from your cloud storage or from your device.
  • Now you can upload files directly to the Gemini AI app.

However, the iOS version of the Gemini app will not support the “Upload from Drive” option. Google also explained that it intends to provide the same functionality as the web version of Gemini AI in the smartphone version of the Gemini app.

Upload files in Gemini app

Since the new feature aims to expand the capabilities of Gemini AI, it could ultimately improve the Gemini mobile app. But what are the types of files you can upload? Here are the types of files you can upload:

  • You can upload plain text files such as TXT
  • You can send documents in DOC, DOCX, PDF, RTF, DOT, DOTX, HWP, HWPX formats
  • You can also upload tabular data files such as CSV and TSV.
  • You can upload spreadsheet files such as XLSX and XLS.
  • You can upload spreadsheets created in Google Sheets

In addition to this, you can also upload documents that are created in Google Docs. Interestingly, you can upload about ten files per session, and the size of these files should not exceed 100 MB.
