Philippines: Electric vehicle charging stations at gas stations to be regulated soon

RA 11697 mandates the construction of electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in the Philippines, particularly at gas stations.

Detailed regulations regarding charging infrastructure:

Construction Requirements: DOE has the right to deny a construction, operating or regulatory compliance permit if a gas station does not have sufficient space for charging infrastructure.

IRR: DOE will issue an IRR containing detailed guidance for the construction, operation, and maintenance of charging stations, including requirements for charging station units based on gas station size.

Penalties: The IRR will also determine penalties for violations of Article 19 of EVIDA.

By implementing these regulations, EVIDA aims to create a more conducive environment for the adoption of electric vehicles in the Philippines by ensuring the availability of adequate charging infrastructure across the country.

Article 19: Requires petrol station owners to install, operate and maintain charging stations for commercial purposes on their premises.
