AND a few months After winning a second term in 2019, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, and his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) passed a law called the Citizenship Amendment Act. This act gave refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan quick citizenship—provided they were not Muslims. At the same time, the government planned to create something called the National Register of Citizens, which would require every Hindu to prove his citizenship.
