Fifteen suspects were arrested during a series of raids on alcohol outlets in Mombasa County carried out by the National Authority Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA).

The operations, which took place in Bamburi, Kisauni and the Central Business District, targeted establishments found to be in breach of the Alcoholic Beverages Control Act (ADCA) 2010.

NACADA CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa confirmed that those arrested were found guilty of violating various requirements, including operating without proper licenses, selling alcohol to minors and storing illegal beer. All suspects are currently under legal proceedings.

“A total of fourteen establishments were visited in Bamburi, Kisauni and the Central Business District in Mombasa County and a total of fifteen suspects were arrested for violating various requirements of the regulations and laws governing liquor outlets. All of them are being subjected to due process of law,” the CEO said.

He added: “This crackdown is part of our broader mission to ensure compliance with the ADCA 2010, reduce the availability of harmful alcohol products and protect the public, in particular vulnerable groups such as young people.”

This multi-agency operation is part of the Government’s long-standing work to reduce the supply of harmful drugs and unregulated alcohol, which pose serious social and health risks.

Dr. Omerikwa emphasized NACADA’s commitment to public health and safety, stating that crackdowns are key to curbing alcohol abuse and its associated challenges.
