Continuing its export expansion in India, e-commerce giant Amazon aims to enable Indian sellers to export $5 billion by 2024.

Thanks to this total exports of Indian companies As the e-commerce giant said in a statement, Amazon’s turnover will exceed $13 billion by the end of 2024.

The goal is part of Amazon’s Global Selling initiative, which was launched in India in 2015. The e-commerce company aims to enable cumulative exports from India worth $20 billion by 2025, said Amazon’s global trade director Bhupen Wakankar.

Presenting the Global Selling Programme 2015, Wakankar said that with Amazon, about 1.5 lakh small Indian exporters will be able to sell products worth about $8 billion directly to foreign consumers by 2023.

“We are investing significantly in tools and technology to help sellers optimize their reach, increase product discovery, and drive sales. The program’s success is reflected in the growing number of exporters building successful businesses in Amazon’s global marketplaces. We will continue to support the growth of small businesses and startups by leveraging technology and strong connections with diverse stakeholders,” Wakankar added.

The Amazon Global Selling program aims to make exporting easier and more accessible for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs across India. It brings together exporters from over 200 cities across the country.

While states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Karnataka lead in the number of exporters registered with Amazon Global Selling, popular categories include cosmetics, apparel, health and personal care, toys and home furnishings.

Amazon said this will enable sellers to list their products on more than 18 of Amazon’s global marketplaces in countries including the US, UK, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Italy, France, Spain, Australia and Singapore.

Commenting on the announcement, MoS for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary said, “Strengthening MSME exports is crucial for our country’s economic growth and e-commerce is proving to be a powerful catalyst in this regard. E-commerce exports, supported by programmes like Amazon Global Selling, play a vital role in providing MSMEs with an opportunity to showcase their products to a global audience.”

The development comes at a time when companies are trying to diversify their sources beyond China amid geopolitical tensions. India has emerged as a significant beneficiary of this shift. Flipkart’s parent company Walmart is also increasing exports from India to reduce dependence on China.

Meanwhile, Amazon continues to bet on India. With increasing internet connectivity, better access to smartphones and a rapidly growing economy, the country has become a big market for India.

Last year, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy pledged to invest $26 billionn in India by 2030.

Reports emerged this morning that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is in talks to invest an additional $2 billion in Telangana to expand its data centre capabilities in the state.

However, Amazon continues to face criticism over its regulatory issues in India. Last month, Union Minister Piyush Goyal drew attention Amazon’s “Predatory Pricing Policy” and said the e-commerce giant plans to invest billions of dollars in India to compensate for its losses.
