Doors used to have little things called peepholes, but now you can see who’s at your door without leaving your couch. Thanks, video intercoms! The battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell is a great option for renters looking for an easy, temporary video intercom with no installation required, especially if you already have Google devices in your home.

You can currently buy the battery-powered Google Nest Doorbell for $99.99 (down from $179.99) or the wired Nest Doorbell $129.97 (Originally $179.99). Both prices are the lowest the devices have ever been, according to price checkers.

While it doesn’t rank among the best video doorbells, the Nest doorbell camera offers a 145-degree field of view, 1280-by-960-pixel video at 30 frames per second, a 3:4 aspect ratio (so you can see the feet of visitors, so you’ll probably be able to see your packages lying on your porch), night vision, 6x digital zoom, two-way audio, and up to six months of battery life, according to PCMag’s “good” review.

Since it’s a Google product, it’s not compatible with Alexa, HomeKit, or IFTTT. You can see who’s ringing your doorbell on devices like the Google Nest Hub and hear doorbells on your smart home speakers or phone. The biggest downside is that recordings are only stored in the cloud for free for the first three hours. If you want to see all the videos, you’ll need a Nest Aware subscription, which starts at $6 per month or $60 per year.
