Cainiao launches charter flights connecting Xi’an and Liège

Cainiao Group, a global leader in e-commerce logistics and the logistics arm of Alibaba, announced the launch of a charter flight between Xi’an, China and Liège, Belgium.

The twice-weekly flight strengthens Cainiao’s cross-border delivery capabilities between China and Europe ahead of the peak shopping season, an official statement said. “The first flight, a Boeing 767-300F cargo aircraft, took off from Xi’an, carrying more than 50 tons of cross-border e-commerce goods, including more than 150,000 cross-border items.”

Upon arrival at Cainiao’s Liège eHub, the chartered flight’s goods are immediately processed for customs clearance and sorted for onward delivery, the release added. “This efficient process allows Cainiao to leverage seamless air-to-ground connectivity, ensuring rapid delivery to Spain, France, Germany and other European destinations. This dedicated air freight route provides Cainiao’s cross-border merchants with a reliable and consistent delivery option.”

William Xiong, Vice President of Cainiao Group, says: “This newly launched charter flight marks a significant step forward in Cainiao’s commitment to building a strong and resilient global logistics network. By expanding our air freight capabilities, we are providing our sellers with faster and more cost-effective shipping solutions while ensuring that consumers receive their orders on time and with the highest quality.”

Cainiao is expanding its regional eHub at Liège Airport, which serves as a key node in its global logistics network, connecting charter flights between China and Europe. It is complemented by an extensive trucking network in Europe, covering more than 30 European countries, the release added.
