New Jersey library reverses controversial cuts in three-hour emergency meeting

Union County’s local library board voted to restore recently reduced hours and other programs during a nearly three-hour emergency board meeting Friday afternoon.

The Rahway Public Library Board of Trustees voted 8-0 to restore Wednesday evening and Saturday hours starting Monday, as well as to scale back other programs and materials announced last week in two separate motions.

The board also voted 8-0 to unfreeze the library’s reserve funds for purchasing new computers, the Terrill Fund, with the understanding that the city would cover the purchase costs and that details would be provided in writing.
