Apple is set to unveil the new iPhone 16 on Monday. Here’s what to expect.

Apple is expected to announce its announcement on Monday reveal their iPhone 16 models along with other new products, in a live-streamed event dubbed “It’s Glowtime.” The latest generation of iPhones will mark what one analyst called “the biggest update cycle in Apple’s history.”

The event is scheduled for September 9 at 1:00 p.m. ET at the tech company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California.

All eyes will be on Apple’s latest iPhone lineup, with all models powered by Apple Intelligence — Apple’s answer to the generative AI revolution — which will be integrated into iOS 18, in line with Apple’s June announcement of a new AI feature.

Integrated with apps like Mail and Notes and designed to simplify everyday tasks like writing lists, it “leverages the power of the Apple chip to understand and create language and images, take action across apps, and use your personal context to simplify and speed up everyday tasks,” according to Apple.

Apple Intelligence is also expected to improve the way phones’ virtual assistant, Siri, works, though that may not be until next year. According to Bloomberg, the “full suite of Apple Intelligence features” will be made available “via multiple iOS 18 updates in late 2024 and the first half of 2025.”

“The iPhone 16 launch is the epitome of Apple Intelligence and the launch of the AI consumer revolution via Cupertino,” said Dan Ives, technology analyst at Wedbush Securities, in a research note.

He expects Apple to push developers to create AI-powered apps to keep up with the “AI wave” driven by the iPhone 16.

At the same time, analysts say the goal is to discreetly weave Apple Intelligence into phone software, at least from a consumer perspective.

“The goal is for AI to be integrated behind the scenes and across applications: invisible and intuitive,” CB Insights analysts said in a research note. “For Apple, all roads lead back to user experience.”

Here’s what else you need to know about the new iPhone.

Huge display size

The latest and greatest iPhone models will have larger screens, according to analysts who follow the company. The regular Pro model will have a larger screen, from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, according to Ives. The larger Pro Max screen will increase from 6.7 to 6.9 inches.

New chip

The latest iPhone models will likely feature the new A18 and A18 Pro chips, which power Apple Intelligence to make devices run faster. The improved chips will also improve the phones’ battery life, a pain point for many consumers, according to research reports.

Better camera

Cameras on the phones will also feature improved technology, which Wedbush’s Ives called a “major selling feature.”

BofA Global Research analysts expect the camera to have a resolution of 48 megapixels and an ultra-wide-angle lens, as well as a new “capture” button that will give users more control, as well as the ability to better focus and zoom in on objects.

Quotation

Ives doesn’t anticipate any major price increases “as we don’t think Apple will lose any improvements (or the move to AI) as a result of the price increase.”

Currently, the iPhone 15 starts at $799, and the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999. The iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1,199.

Customers typically have to wait at least a week after a product launch to buy new tech tools. BofA Global Research analysts say that if the iPhone 16 starts shipping on September 20, the devices could reach customers by the end of the month.
