1.5 million Ram trucks recalled to fix software bug that could disable stability control

DETROIT (AP) — Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.5 million Ram pickups worldwide to correct a software problem that can disable the electronic stability control system.

The recall covers select 2019 and 2021-2024 model year trucks, primarily in North America.

Stellantis said in a statement Saturday that the trucks could be equipped with anti-lock braking software that could inadvertently disable stability control, which operates the throttle and brakes to avoid skidding.

If that happens, the company said the brakes will still work. Stellantis said it has no reports of any accidents or injuries caused by the issue.

The company says U.S. safety standards require electronic stability control to operate in almost every phase of driving.

Dealers will update the software to resolve the issue at no cost to owners. Notifications will be sent by mail starting October 3.
