Chrysler parent company Stellantis is recalling 1.46 million vehicles worldwide.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Chrysler parent Stellantis said on Saturday it was recalling 1.46 million vehicles worldwide because of a software glitch in its anti-lock brake system that could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall covers nearly 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks from model years 2019 and 2021-2024 in the United States, as well as approximately 159,000 vehicles in Canada, 13,000 in Mexico and 61,000 outside North America.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said a software failure could cause the antilock brake system (ABS) control module to disable the electronic stability control system.

The issue means the vehicles do not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards for electric stability control systems.

Stellantis said that if the problem occurs, the ABS, ESC, adaptive cruise control and Forward Collision Warning lights will illuminate during vehicle start-up, indicating that the systems are not working. Basic braking will work, it added.

The company said it was not aware of any injuries or accidents related to the incident.

Stellantis on Saturday announced a recall for approximately 33,000 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to a potential internal short circuit issue in the instrument cluster.
