Higher calling: Telecoms and ISP firms to boost employment amid government pressure

According to TeamLease Services, around 62% of telecom, internet service provider (ISP) and related companies intend to increase their headcount in the first half of the fiscal year, indicating a positive hiring sentiment in these sectors.

Among others, 17% will reduce headcount while 21% will keep it unchanged in the six months to September, the recruitment firm said in a report. It noted a net increase in employment of 5.62% in these sectors.

Among locations, Delhi led with 57% for employers expanding their workforce in existing work locations, followed by Bengaluru and Chennai with 53% each. Hyderabad and Bhopal topped the list for hiring new work locations with 20% each, followed by Bengaluru, Vadodara and Jaipur with 19% each, TeamLease said.

He added that the increase in basic customs duty on printed circuit board assembly of specific telecom equipment to boost domestic manufacturing, the Jan Vishwas Bill 2.0 and others will pave the way for new business models and employment opportunities in the telecom sector.

TeamLease said that Indian telecom equipment manufacturers, including CPE (Customer Premise Equipment) and networking equipment (routers, multiplexers, wireless radio equipment, etc.), who are also beneficiaries of the government’s PLI scheme, are playing a key role in generating additional employment in the manufacturing sector.
