NSA Doval to visit Russia next week: Sources

New Delhi (India), September 8 (ANI): National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will visit Russia next week, sources said.

They added that NSA chief Doval will attend the BRICS NSA meeting in Moscow.

A meeting of senior security officials from BRICS and BRICS Plus countries will be held in St. Petersburg on September 10-12.

It is worth noting that Russia will chair BRICS in 2024. BRICS is an informal group of countries that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In 2023, new members will join the group: Egypt, Iran, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia.

Ajit Doval attended the 13th BRICS NSA meeting in Johannesburg in July 2023.

Doval’s visit to Moscow follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visits to Russia and Ukraine over the past two months. During the visit, PM Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

This was Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to Russia and Ukraine since the outbreak of war between Moscow and Kiev in 2022. It is worth noting that India has always advocated “peace and diplomacy” to resolve the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

During his visit to Russia in July, Prime Minister Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin and discussed ways to diversify cooperation between the two countries in various sectors such as trade, business, security, agriculture, technology, commerce and innovation.

In a post on X, PM Modi stated, “Today I had productive discussions with President Putin at the Kremlin. Our discussions covered ways to diversify India-Russia cooperation in sectors like trade, commerce, security, agriculture, technology and innovation. We attach great importance to enhancing connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.” During the talks with the Russian President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that there is no solution on the battlefield and added that peace talks do not yield results amidst bombs, guns and bullets. PM Modi said, “As a friend, I have always said that for the bright future of our future generations, peace is of utmost importance. But I also know that solutions are not possible on the battlefield. Amid bombs, guns and bullets, solutions and peace talks do not yield results. We will have to pursue the path to peace only through talks.” PM Modi said that everyone who believes in humanity suffers when there is loss of life. He added that it is “heartbreaking” to see the death of innocent children.

PM Modi said, “Be it war, conflicts, terrorist attacks, everyone who believes in humanity suffers when there is a loss of life. But when innocent children are murdered, when we see innocent children dying, it is heartbreaking. This pain is immense. I have had a detailed discussion with you on this issue as well.” In August, PM Modi travelled to Ukraine after completing his visit to Poland. During his meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky, PM Modi called dialogue the only solution to the conflict in Ukraine.

“India has never been neutral, we have always been on the side of peace,” PM Modi told Zelensky during their bilateral meeting. PM Modi further said that India is ready to play an active role in the path of peace and progress.

Speaking to ANI in Kyiv, the Ukrainian president said, “India will play its part. I think India has started realizing that this is not just a conflict, it is a real war of one man, and his name is Putin, against an entire country, and his name is Ukraine. You are a big country. You have a lot of influence and you can stop Putin, stop his economy and really put him in his place.” (ANI)
