DoT for 5.2 crore M2M vendors: Register by September 30 or face service disruptions

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has issued a stern warning to unregistered machine-to-machine (M2M) service providers and Wireless personal area network Wireless Local Area Network (WPAN)/Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) providers. These entities must register with DoT by September 30, 2024 to avoid disruption in their services. M2M services.

What are M2M services?

M2M services include a wide range of devices, including smart TVs, digital meters, and fastags, which can be connected using broadband or wireless technologies such as SIM cards and Wi-Fi. This technology enables point-to-point communication between machines, sensors, and equipment. They can communicate this information to other devices and control their operational behavior using this information. The main goal is to collect data, transmit it over the network, and perform actions based on triggered events. Examples of M2M devices include smart meters, wearables, fleet management trackers, and connected vending machines.

DoT Warning to M2M Service Providers

Failure to do so may result in withdrawal or disconnection of telecom resources obtained from authorized telecom licensees. As of June 30, there were 5.2 crore M2M mobile connections in India.
