Sonos delays set-top box launch after faulty app update

It’s been an infamous year for failed software updates. But what’s the worst-case scenario for a buggy update? Sonos may be trying to figure out an answer as its mobile app update continues to thwart its best-laid plans.

In its latest earnings conference call, the company announced that it had no choice but to delay the release of two products due to ongoing software development. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that one of those two products is a set-top box that will compete with Apple TV and other Roku-type devices.

But that’s not all; the company’s reputation has been damaged and will be hard to recover. According to Bloomberg, the new Sonos Ace headphones are not delivering the expected results, and the stock is falling — even after a series of layoffs.

The question is: has Sonos hit rock bottom, or is it about to sink even further?
