Stellantis Recalls 1.46 Million Vehicles Worldwide Due to Safety Software Flaw: Details – Stellantis (NYSE:STLA)

Stellantis NV STL shares are trading higher on Monday. On Thursday, Chrysler’s parent company reportedly disclosed a recall of 1.46 million vehicles worldwide.

The recall covers nearly 1.23 million Ram 1500 trucks from the 2019 and 2021-2024 model years in the U.S.

Reuters reported that about 159,000 vehicles were recalled in Canada, 13,000 in Mexico and 61,000 in other countries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said a software failure could cause the electronic stability control system to be disabled via the antilock brake system control module.

These vehicles do not meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 126, “Electronic Stability Control Systems.”

According to the report, Stellantis said that if the problem occurs, the ABS, ESC, adaptive cruise control and Forward Collision Warning lights will illuminate during startup, signaling that these systems are not working. However, basic braking will still work.

Stellantis said it is not aware of any related injuries or accidents. The company is also recalling approximately 33,000 2020-2024 Jeep Gladiator and 2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles due to a potential internal short circuit issue in the instrument cluster.

Last week, Jeep reportedly temporarily halted production of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee due to high inventory.

Stellantis, Jeep’s parent company, confirmed “production adjustments” at the plants in question. However, the duration of the production halt remains unclear.

Price action:STLA shares were up 0.35% to $15.56 as of last check on Monday.
