US vs Google Recap: All the News from the Ad Technology Trial

Google and the Department of Justice are clashing again, this time in a lawsuit over Google’s monopoly on advertising technology markets.

The trial is set to begin Sept. 9 in federal court in Alexandria, Virginia. The Justice Department says Google unfairly blocked the market for ad technology tools that publishers and advertisers rely on to monetize their websites and sell their goods. Google counters that it has built powerful products that work well for customers and says it faces a lot of competition.

The trial comes on the heels of a historic ruling in favor of the government in another antitrust case against Google before a different judge, in which a D.C. District Court judge found that Google had illegally monopolized the online search market. So while the ad tech case is getting underway, the government is also considering what remedies it will seek to restore competition in search.
