The titanium Apple Watch Series 10 is carbon neutral

The titanium Apple Watch Series 10 is carbon neutral, Apple announced at its “It’s Glowtime” event. Any Apple Watch in any finish could be carbon neutral this year, Apple says.

To reduce emissions, the Titanium Watch is made from 95 percent recycled titanium, Apple Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams said. Apple also purchases enough renewable energy to cover the electricity used to make the watch. The company also says it prioritizes “airless shipping” to reduce pollution from shipping.

Last year, Apple launched its first carbon-neutral products: “select combinations of Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple Watch SE case and bands.” Aside from today’s announcement, these watches are the company’s only carbon-neutral products to date.

It’s important to remember that the key metric to look at is the company’s overall carbon footprint — not just the carbon footprint of a single product. Even if a brand designs a less polluting gadget, its overall carbon footprint could increase if it designs gadgets that quickly become obsolete. It could end up producing more gadgets AND more carbon emissions than if customers were allowed to store older products longer.
