Perhaps the biggest news is the addition of a hearing health feature to AirPods Pro 2, making them the first headphones to offer a complete hearing health solution. Apple has integrated a hearing test feature using tonal audiometry, which creates a personalized hearing profile that is stored in the Health app. Designed for people with mild to moderate hearing loss, the hearing aid feature dynamically adjusts sound to improve conversations and awareness of surroundings. This software-based solution is a significant step toward more accessible and affordable hearing care.

Apple also announced health features

Apple has introduced new health features for Apple Watch and AirPods Pro 2, focusing on sleep apnea and hearing health. Apple Watch now offers sleep apnea notifications via the Breathing Disturbances metric, detecting abnormal breathing patterns during sleep. The feature, soon to be available in over 150 countries, helps users identify potential sleep apnea issues and urges them to consult a doctor.

In terms of hearing health, AirPods Pro 2 offer a comprehensive solution with a hearing test feature and an over-the-counter hearing aid option to make hearing aid more accessible. The hearing test lets users assess their hearing at home, while the hearing aid feature helps those with mild to moderate hearing loss. These features will be available in more than 100 countries by fall 2024.

Apple continues to put user privacy first by ensuring that all health data is encrypted and stored securely. Both the sleep apnea and hearing health features are designed to improve users’ overall well-being and raise awareness of these underdiagnosed conditions.
