BYD Shows Off Autonomous Driving Advances with Revamped Han Sedan TechNode

BYD on Monday unveiled a redesigned version of its popular Han sedan, touting the leading performance of its new DiPilot 300 advanced driver-assistance system as Tesla approaches the launch of its Full Self Driving (FSD) software in China. The top-of-the-range versions of the popular luxury sedan are priced at RMB 235,800 and RMB 225,800 ($33,130 and $31,725) respectively for all-electric and plug-in hybrid versions, and feature Nvidia’s Drive Orin processor and a roof-mounted lidar unit. It will be the first model in BYD’s Dynasty line to operate autonomously on Chinese highways and city roads and be able to drive into parking spaces on its own after software updates that local rivals Huawei and Xpeng Motors have made available to customers. Tesla said Sept. 5 that it hopes to launch its most advanced driving assistance technology in China in the first quarter of 2025, with the upcoming version 12.5.2 of its FSD software expected to deliver a threefold improvement in miles between necessary interventions.
