Meta Reveals Affordable Quest 3S in Its App — Here’s What We Know

At this point, we’re almost 100% certain that Meta is working on a budget VR headset called the Quest 3S. The overwhelming amount of leaks and rumors leads us to believe that’s the case. These rumors are given even more credence by the latest leak, which comes from Meta itself.

First spotted by UploadVR and shared by a Reddit user, images of a VR headset have surfaced in Meta’s Windows Quest Link PC software, which looks like a combination of the company’s Quest 2 and Quest 3 devices. Yes, this is Meta’s first app, so it looks like the company has prematurely revealed its own headset.

Presumably, Meta was planning to announce the launch of the Quest 3S at its Connect event, which kicks off on September 25.

The headset, which we’re assuming is the Quest 3S, looks a bit different than the current Quest 3, especially when it comes to the design of the front-facing cameras. Instead of the pill-shaped camera cutouts found on the current headset, the alleged Quest 3S has the lenses grouped in two sets of three on the front of the device.

The headset strap looks about the same as the Quest 3.

Interestingly, one X user also noticed that third-party accessories are already available for the Meta Quest 3S headset, which increases the likelihood that this headset will launch soon.

Previous rumors suggest the Quest 3S will retail for just $300. To hit such a low price, some have speculated that Meta will ship the headset without controllers, but that would be a bold move since controllers are a core part of many of the best VR experiences. On the other hand, Meta has recently added more gesture controls to the headset, so controllers may no longer be as necessary as they once were.
